[0001] BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to a plastic rear window for a motor vehicle carrying a third brake light. BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION The rear glasses are usually glass and have the disadvantage of having a high mass. Some vehicles, such as soft-top convertibles, have a plastic rear window such as PVC.
[0002] These rear glasses are lightweight, but have the disadvantages of being scratched easily and tending to lose transparency over time. Patents FR 2 766 198 and 2 779 990 disclose rear spectacles which do not have the above disadvantages.
[0003] Certain elements having particular functions, such as a stop light, can be added to these rear windows. The object of the present invention is to provide improvements to the rear glasses above. This object is achieved, according to the invention, thanks to a plastic rear window for a motor vehicle carrying a third brake light, characterized in that it comprises an area in which the plastic is more transparent than the plastic material constituting the rest of the rear window, the light source of the third stop light being disposed facing a peripheral portion of the rear window on which a first portion of said zone opens, a second portion of this zone opening into the plastic material constituting the remainder of the telescope, so that the light emitted by the light source can pass through said zone. The area of plastic more transparent than that of the rest of the bezel thus plays the role of a light guide that guides the light emitted by the light source. This zone in a more transparent material makes it possible to reduce the absorption of light intensity that the light undergoes while passing through the plastic material which constitutes the remainder of the bezel which is less transparent because it is tinted to protect the occupants with regard to the radiation. solar.
[0004] Moreover, the arrangement of the light source facing a slice of the telescope makes it easy to make this source invisible when it is not lit. This arrangement improves the aesthetics of the rear window.
[0005] Preferably, said zone where the plastic is more transparent than that of the rest of the rear window is obtained by bi-injection of plastic material. This technique is well known to those skilled in the art, so it does not need to be described here.
[0006] In a first version of the invention, said second part of the zone where the plastic is more transparent opens onto a surface of the rear window which is substantially perpendicular to said wafer. In this version, between the first portion of said zone and the second portion thereof is located a third portion inclined with respect to the first or second portion on which can be reflected the light emitted by the light source to guide the light towards the rear of the vehicle with the rear window. This third inclined portion deflects the light emitted by the light source to make it appear on the outer face of the bezel.
[0007] This arrangement also makes the stop light invisible when the light source is off. Also, in this version, the second portion of said more transparent area preferably opens onto the outer surface of the plastics material which is less transparent and which constitutes the remainder of the plastic material. In another embodiment, the second portion of said zone opens onto a screen-printed part. In an advantageous embodiment of the invention, the second portion of said transparent material zone is entirely confined within the less transparent plastic material constituting the remainder of the rear window. In another embodiment, the second portion of said transparent material zone is entirely confined in a screen-printed area of the telescope.
[0008] By way of example, the zone of more transparent plastic material has a transparency equal to 80%. Moreover, the tinted plastic which constitutes the rest of the telescope has a transparency of less than 80%.
[0009] According to another aspect, the invention also relates to a motor vehicle equipped with a rear window according to the invention. Other features and advantages of the invention will become apparent throughout the description below. In the accompanying drawings, given by way of nonlimiting example: FIG. 1 is a plan view of the outer face of a first embodiment of a rear window according to the invention showing the stop light on, FIG. 2 is a view similar to FIG. 1 showing the stop light extinguished, FIG. 3 is a sectional view along plane III-III of FIG. 1, FIGS. 4, 5 and 6 are analogous views respectively. in FIGS. 1, 2, 3 relating to a second embodiment of the invention, FIGS. 7, 8 and 9 are views similar to FIGS. 1, 2 and 3, respectively, relating to a third embodiment according to the invention; Figures 10, 11, 12 are views similar respectively to Figures 1, 2, 3. Figures 1, 4, 7 and 10 and 2, 5, 8 and 11 each show a plastic rear window 1 according to the invention. such as polycarbonate or polymethylmethacrylate. In all cases, the rear window 1 has an opaque peripheral zone 2 and the plastic material 3 which constitutes the major part of the telescope is tinted in the mass to protect the occupants of the vehicle with respect to solar radiation. In each of the rear windows 1 is integrated a stop lamp 4 whose light source 5 is constituted by light-emitting diodes or laser encapsulated in a shell 6 of plastic (see in particular Figures 3, 6, 9 and 12) related to the rest of the bezel 1. The diodes 5 of the light source of the stop light 4 are arranged in a row on the upper peripheral edge 2a of the bezel 1.
[0010] According to the invention, the rear window 1 comprises a zone 7, 7a, 7b, 7c (see in particular FIGS. 3, 6, 9 and 12) in which the plastic is more transparent than the plastic 3 constituting the remainder of the rear window 1.
[0011] This zone 7, 7a, 7b, 7c comprises a first portion 8, 8a, 8b, 8c which opens on the upper peripheral edge 2a of the bezel 1 and a second portion 9, 9a, 9b, 9c opening into the plastics material 3 constituting the rest of the telescope, so that the light emitted by the light source can pass through the zone 7, 7a, 7b, 7c as shown by the arrows F, F1, F2, F3.
[0012] The zone 7, 7a, 7b, 7c where the plastic is more transparent than that of the rest 3 of the rear window 1 is obtained by bi-injection of plastic material. In the embodiments of FIGS. 1 to 6, the second part 9, 9a of the zone where the plastics material is more transparent opens onto the outer surface 2b of the rear window which is substantially perpendicular to the wafer 2 where the diodes are arranged. 5. In all the embodiments, between the first part 8, 8a, 8b, 8c of the zone 7, 7a, 7b, 7c and the second part 9, 9a, 9b, 9c thereof is situated a third part 10, 10a, 10b, 10c inclined relative to the first or second part on which the light emitted by the diodes 5 can be reflected.
[0013] In the examples of Figures 1 to 6, the second portion 9, 9a of the zone 7, 7a opens on the outer surface 2b of the plastics material 3 which is less transparent and which constitutes the rest of the plastic material. In the case of Figures 4, 5 and 6, the second portion 9a of the zone 7a opens on a portion of screen-printed material.
[0014] In the example of FIGS. 7, 8 and 9, the second portion 9b of the transparent material zone 7b is entirely confined within the less transparent plastics material constituting the remainder of the rear window. This second part 9b is separated from the outer surface 2b of the bezel by a relatively thin layer of plastics material 3 which, as indicated above, is less transparent than that of the area 7c. In the example of Figures 10, 11 and 12, the second portion 9c of the zone 7c transparent material is almost completely confined in a screenprinted area of the bezel.
[0015] The zone 7, 7a, 7b, 7c of more transparent plastic material has a transparency equal to or greater than 80%. The material 3 which constitutes the rest of the plastic material of the bezel has a transparency well below 80%.
[0016] In the case of FIG. 1, when the stop light 4 is on, the light emitted in red is visible through the window that opens onto the outer surface of the telescope, which enables other motorists to notice that the driver of the vehicle has pressed the brake pedal. When the driver releases the pedal, the red light goes out, but the window remains visible (see Figure 2) because the plastic of the zone 7 which opens on the outer surface of the bezel is less colored than the material 3 surrounding the window. On the other hand, the diodes 5, given their position, are not visible. In the case of Figure 4, when braking, the red light appears on the window in the opaque area. When this light is off (see Figure 5), the window remains visible, but the diodes 5 are not visible. In the case of Figures 7 to 12, the red light appears at the top of the telescope, in case of braking.
[0017] However, this window is no longer visible when the brake pedal is released and the diodes 5 are not visible on the telescope. The main advantages of the invention are as follows: the fact that the rear window is made of plastic material allows a weight gain of between 15 and 30%; - The injection of plastic material allows the rear window to have greater freedom of shape; - the thermal insulation is better than that of glass; - burglar resistance is greater than that of glass; - all the elements of the brake light, with the exception of the connectors, can be integrated in the rear window.
